Making a Positive Impact in Arkansas
ARcare Special Services began in 2000 as medical care for a few HIV patients in a relatively small Arkansas community. It grew out of one doctor’s vision. Dan Moore, M.D. was frustrated while trying to find support in Arkansas for his close friend who was living with HIV. Dr. Moore began to see more and more HIV patients in neighboring towns and counties, which only strengthened his desire to help even more people living with HIV obtain treatment and access the support they needed and deserved.
Over the next several years, ARcare became a voice at the planning table, invited by the Arkansas Department of Health to participate with other community agencies to develop a statewide strategy to address HIV access to care in Arkansas. Between 2010 and 2018, ARcare experienced significant growth, expanding HIV services for the entire state of Arkansas through multiple programs administered by the Ryan White CARE Act. In 2019, the ARcare Special Services HIV Program rebranded as ARcare Positive Connections to better align with our program’s mission to make a positive impact in the communities we serve.
Today, ARcare Positive Connections offers rapid HIV testing, awareness campaigns, educational initiatives, HIV medical and case management services, and HIV empowerment programming through our ever-growing, statewide network of Access Centers, Family Practice Clinics, and HIV Telehealth program. We also offer quality training and education to health professionals through our affiliation with the South Central AIDS Education and Training Center (AETC).
Together, we believe we can bring an end to the HIV epidemic by connecting everyone in Arkansas to HIV testing, education, medical care and support.
